We Can Only Hope

http://www.altoonamirror.com/page/content.detail/id/523829.html?pollvote=1#poll344

Since most blog readers/contributors are not from the Pittsburgh area, and with there being such a prolonged break in the action, it's important to re-remember the significance of Pitt-Penn State. For years, it was the most significant gridiron matchup in the football rich state of Pennsylvania. A spat between Coach Paterno and Pitt administrators has put this on semi permanent hold, but as Cory Giger reports, there is a chance that loyal followers of each school could be rewarded with a BCS clash. Even without the teams playing recently, I can say that in Pittsburgh especially, which houses large numbers of fans from each school, the passion of the rivalry has never waned. Each school is fiercely loyal, and there is no middle ground. It has sadly fallen from the national landscape, but make no mistake, Pitt-Penn State is one of the great college football rivalries of all time. Everyone on both sides would love to see it happen on a big stage like the BCS. It looks like a lot has to happen between here and now, but we can hope. Most likely, Pitt will not hold up their end of the bargain. Because they stink.

I would love to see it. As a current resident of Pittsburgh, it would definitely be exciting for me. I also would love for my dumbass Pitt-grad roommate to shut up about how badly Pitt would beat PSU. Pitt stinks.

I agree. I would love to see this game too in a BCS setting. Additionally, I would love to see the rivalry renewed. I think a Pitt-Penn State game on the final weekend of the season, along with all of the other Rivalry games would be awesome for the state of PA and the respective schools. Lets make it happen again!

Yeah I would love to see them renew the regular season series. I don't really know all the details of the situation, but from what I have heard, JoePa is still bitter that Pitt turned down his proposal to start a new conference years ago (before PSU joined the Big Ten.) As a result, he is stubborn and refuses to agree to a home and away deal with Pitt. I love Joe, but I don't agree with this. Pitt is not Akron or Coastal Carolina. You can't expect them to travel to Penn State without returning the favor. This rivalry needs to be renewed!

Be careful what you wish for. I've seen both teams play this year and Pitt is for real. Lewis would run all over PSU and Pitt's d-line would be in Clark's face all day.

Pitt - 38
PSU - 17

Peter Lawrence said...

Kenny Powers if you think sPitt would put up 38 on Penn State's defense your crazy.

Kenny Powers said...

PSU would be lucky if Pitt didn't put up 38 by half time!

You're dreaming. Get back to work.

Dion Lewis is the real deal, but that is strength vs. strength. PSU's defensive front is among the top handful in the country, and that's not opinion. Pitt's defense can get some pressure, I think, but Clark plays better each week and he more than likely handles it. You saw what Russell Wilson did to Pitt, and Clark is decidedly better. I think it's funny people conveniently forget Pitt giving up 50 points and losing to a bad ACC team. It was on the road but still. In the end, you have two 7-1 teams that each have 1 really bad loss and haven't really beaten anyone. I think it would be a good game, and great from a tradition standpoint. But anyone that takes a good look at it and doesn't realize that Penn State has better players at about 90% of the positions isn't paying attention. Opening line is Penn State -7 on a neutral field easily.

I will take Pitt all day at +7.

You will be broke at the end of the day.

I think we are forgetting that PITT has 9 National Championships. NINE!!!! How many does Penn State have?
There is absolutly no way that PSU could beat Pitt. EVER! Clearly there is no comparison of these two programs. Penn State can only hope to achive the level of success that PITT has reached. Year in and year out Pitt is just flat out the better program. JoPa is just a scared old man, that poops his pants.

WOW! Not really sure who this Stache character is but he/she/it speaks clearly with no football knowledge. You might wanna do some research before you make bogus remarks as such.

Wheres Mandie Reed???

Hey Mr. Albright, your last name gives you too much credit, because you are NOT ALL THAT BRIGHT! Bogus remarks? I don't understand? Wait a minute, I don't know why I'm even acknowledgeing your comments. Please stop writing on this blog, only smart people are allowed on here. But I should have figured that you wern't all that bright since you probably went to PSU. Sorry man.

The STACHE HAS SPOKEN!

Wow Stache, you don't seem so bright yourself. Real smart to go on to a Penn State Football blog and talk trash on Penn State. The Big East is a joke.

The Stache said...

You think I'm scared of you Chalfin? Or J.Albright (I mean J.Dumbass)? Nope, I'm not. Big East a joke huh? What makes you say that? You know whats a joke, losing to Iowa each year? You know whats a joke? USC beating the living hell out of you last year in the Rose Bowl. You know whats the biggest joke of all? PSU's non conference schedule. Big win against Eastern Illinois a few weekends ago. Nice Job!

Stache man, when you pose a question to yourself like: 'Big East a joke huh? What makes you say that?' and provide no retort...it doesn't help your case. You're pathetic conference only has 8 teams. We played one of them this year called Syracuse. We beat them. They suck. So does Rutgers and Louisville. There is a reason BC VT and Miami all left you. Sorry. Ill give you the edge in basketball, but football just isnt your thing. And how about for starters, Pitt gets their own football stadium, huh? What are you? Temple? Not enough money to build you own because no one cares? How was that spring game? 5000 fans? Thats a good turnout. We had 80,000, but they couldnt all fit in your...i mean the Steelers' stadium anyway. I could go all day Stache. Wanny is a shitty coach and no one like him, they just like the mustache rides he gives out during halftime

J.Albright said...

Well put Rudy. Stache, you're really gonna play the non-conference card? Youngstown State-Buffalo-Navy-NC State? Cummon...

Furthermore, I'm still trying to figure out where these 9 National Championships are coming from. Enlighten us, please. Because if you are counting self-proclaimed titles or undefeated seasons from the 1800's, then Penn State has about 15 of those.

The Stache said...

I don't even know where to start. Rudy, may I call you Rudy? You mentioned that the Big East sucks. Top to bottom it is so much better than the Big Ten. You mentioned that Syracuse sucks, you are correct, they do suck, which is why Penn State Scheduled them because they don't have the balls to schedule tough games. Yes, Louisville and Rutgers also suck. I'm surprised PSU didn't schedule them too. However you only mentioned 3 teams. The rest of the Conference would destroy any team in the Big Ten. I'm so confused as to why all of Happy Valley becomes sad when they lose to a legitamite opponent (Iowa) and their hopes of a National Championship are dashed and they can't believe it. One suggestion, schedule some games against some tougher teams to PREPARE youself for legitamate opponents. Are we really going to talk about the Spring Game? 80,000 fans!!! YAY! That is so cool! Awesome man! Did you go? Did you play Corn-hole? That sounds like so much fun.
You sound like a kid desperate to make a point, unfortunatly, that point that dumb. We're talking football here, not fan turnout to games. You're so stupid.

Albright, I'm not even going to acknowledge you. I thought I asked you to leave?

Stache, calm down...wheres your dad?

In the past 80 years only two of the teams currently in the Big East have won national titles (Pitt in '76 and Syracuse in '59...wooo!) vs 14 in the Big 10. Of course back a few years UCONN didnt have a D1 team and neither did USF, both of whom have come a long way, but lets be realistic, they will never be on the level of OSU, PSU, Michigan, and Wisconsin.
I'm a big fan, so yes, I am proud that our fans support the team and are excited to see them whether its spring or fall. I can understand that you would need to pull the hate card on us since you probably only enjoy your team when they are having a season like right now. We call that bandwagon. There really aren't many die hard Pitt football fans are there, so instead you objectify us because we enjoy tailgating and know what we are talking about. That poor fan base doesn't help recruiting where we have the 2nd best class in the nation (Pitt is currently ranked 27th).
As for Syracuse, the year we scheduled them, they won 10 games, its not like you pick who you are going to play the same year....or dont you know this? I thought that was common knowledge, but different rules apply to those with Pitt degrees. And by the way, you lost to NC State...the 3-4 NC State....that lost to Duke. Clearly my intelligence will never permeate your thick head, but let's continue this discussion in several weeks after you play ND, Cinci, and WVU.
